Program Overview

ON-RAMP CNY connects individuals to hands-on, partner-led training programs designed to prepare participants for in-demand careers in advanced manufacturing, construction and related fields.

Programs are offered at no cost and supported by coordinated services that help participants succeed in training and employment.

Pre-Apprenticeship

Pathways to Apprenticeship prepares participants for entry into registered apprenticeships in the building and construction trades through hands-on training, career preparation, and industry-focused skill development.

Building Trades

A hands-on building trades program that prepares participants for careers in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and heavy equipment operations through practical, industry-focused training.

Advanced Manufacturing

In partnership with SUNY EOC, this program provides hands-on training in manufacturing fundamentals, equipment operation, production systems, and workplace skills to prepare participants for careers in advanced manufacturing.

Pre-Apprenticeship Program

What if the next 12 weeks could shape the next 20 years of your career? Pathways to Apprenticeship is a paid readiness program designed to prepare you for registered apprenticeship opportunities in the building and trades. Over 12 weeks, you’ll build the skills, knowledge and confidence to take your next step toward a career in the trades.

Building Trades Training

If you want to see what you've built at the end of the day, the building trades could be your path. Our hands-on Building & Construction Trades program prepares participants for in-demand careers in electrical, carpentry, plumbing and heavy equipment operations. Through practical, industry-focused instruction, you'll gain real-world experience while developing the technical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities employers look for.

Advanced Manufacturing Program

Our Advanced Manufacturing Program provides the foundational skills and practical experience needed to begin a career in a growing, technology-driven industry. Through microelectronics manufacturing training, participants gain experience producing components used in everyday essentials, such as smartphones, medical devices, vehicles and more. If you’re interested in technology, hands-on work, and building a career in a growing industry, this program is a place to start building momentum.

As you complete your coursework, you'll have the opportunity to build your confidence and professionalism through resume coaching, interview prep and workplace communication. You'll also learn how to create your social media presence and how to navigate networking opportunities.

Financial Empowerment

Building a successful career also means building a strong financial future. Financial Empowerment training helps you create a plan for long-term success through career planning, budgeting, financial literacy, and smart money management. Gain the tools to make informed financial decisions, build financial stability, and create opportunities for lasting economic mobility for yourself and your family.

How much does ON-RAMP training cost?

There is no cost to you. Training programs offered through ON-RAMP and its partner organizations are provided at no cost to eligible participants.

How long are ON-RAMP training programs?

Most ON-RAMP training programs are 12 weeks long. Programs are designed to give you the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience you need to prepare for an in-demand career.

Program schedules may vary. Your advisor can provide details about the specific program you’re interested in.

What careers can I prepare for through ON-RAMP?

ON-RAMP prepares you for in-demand careers in advanced manufacturing, construction and the building trades.

Depending on the program you choose, you will develop technical skills and industry knowledge that can help you pursue opportunities in fields such as advanced manufacturing, construction, skilled trades, and related occupations.

How do I apply for an ON-RAMP training program?

Getting started is easy. The admissions process helps connect you with a program that fits your interests and career goals.

  1. Complete the ON-RAMP Interest Form
  2. Attend an Information Session
  3. Submit your resume
  4. Participate in an interview
  5. Submit required documentation to the ON-RAMP team
  6. Receive an admissions decision

You’ll be notified if you have been accepted into a program or placed on a waitlist.

Are online courses available?

Some programs offer online learning options. Availability depends on the specific training program. Talk with your advisor or program team to learn about available online and in-person options.

Can I earn money while I train?

Yes. ON-RAMP follows an “earn as you learn” approach. Depending on the program and your eligibility, you may be able to earn up to $20 per hour while completing your training.

Is childcare available?

Childcare support may be available based on eligibility. ON-RAMP can connect eligible trainees with childcare providers and resources in the area.

Are evening or weekend classes available?

Some programs offer evening classes. Weekend training is not currently available.

Program schedules vary, so ask your advisor about the schedule for the program you’re interested in.

What is the attendance policy?

Regular attendance and active participation are important to your success. You are expected to attend all scheduled sessions and participate fully, whether training takes place online or in person.

Please arrive on time or early and be ready to learn at the start of each session. For many programs, trainees are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes early to get settled and prepared.

If an unexpected situation may cause you to miss a class or arrive late, contact your instructor or program team as soon as possible. We understand that life happens, and communicating early can help you stay on track.

Will ON-RAMP help me find a job after training?

ON-RAMP helps prepare you for in-demand careers and your next step into the workforce. You’ll build skills and knowledge based on employer needs, your interests, and your career goals.

Your program team can provide career guidance and help you prepare for opportunities after training. Employment is not guaranteed.

Can I take additional training after I complete a program?

Yes. Additional upskilling and advanced training opportunities may be available after you complete your program.

Availability depends on program offerings and workforce needs. Talk with your advisor about opportunities to continue building your skills and advancing your career.
